The Future of the Palo Duro Canyon

The Palo Duro Canyon is the second deepest canyon in the United States, and located around Amarillo, TX. Its average depth is 304 meters (997 ft), with an average width of 10.3 miles. It was formed by water erosion from the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River. The water deepened the canyon by moving sediment downstream, while wind and water erosion gradually widened the canyon. Based on the history of the canyon, I think that the canyon will continue to deepen and widen, but not a very significant amount because the river that used to flow through the canyon is now just a small stream that only flows through various parts of the canyon.
